"Be the Change" in Singapore's United World College
Former Global Board president Shanisse from Singapore and some of her friends were back at the United World College South East Asia in Singapore on October 3rd, to empower another batch of Climate Justice Ambassadors. Felix had started this work a year and a half before, and the school continues the mission, true to the spirit of its founder Kurt Hahn.
As part of a class titled "Be the change", that aims at guiding students to actively make a positive contribution to their society, they got to listen to Shanisse and friends and learn about Felix, Wangari Maathai and of course about climate justice and the work that children all around the world are doing in its name. When challenged to produce 30 ideas per group of what they could do, all groups met the target!
After the presentation, we planted some Pandan (Pandanus amaryllifolius) in the school gardens - a plant that is popular over all of Southeast Asia for making various sweets and traditional dishes.
The Academy also counted with the presence of LJ Jang, networker who brought Plant-for-the-Planet in touch with the right people to start in Singapore last year, and continues to support our work.
A special treat was brought by Shanisse: 50 change chocolate bars from Germany! The kids didn't let this opportunity pass and not one was left at the end of the Academy!
