On April 12th, 2013 a Plant-for-the-Planet Academy was held at the Instituto de Educación Secundaria (IES) Cruce de Arinaga in Gran Canaria, Spain. 78 students participated and enjoyed a special morning while planting 300 trees in the grounds of the Institute.
The trees we planted close together, at one meter distance, to create a protective hedge against strong winds of this area. Most of the trees were pines native of the Canary Islands, but also many other native species of trees and shrubs.
In this way, apart from having a wind-break the students have also at their school a small botanical garden to learn how to differentiate between the species. Finally, a drip irrigation system was installed in order to ensure the plants’ survival.Back
